GPT-4 represents the most advanced artificial intelligence model to date, capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including retrieving relevant information and indicating the sources of that information.

Four months after the launch of GPT-4, the model's developer, OpenAI, announced the possibility of integrating it into various applications. Initially, access to the model will be limited to a select number of service developers, but in the future, access will be expanded to all interested parties through an API. Currently, GPT-4 is already available to all users interested in exploring its capabilities.

What is GPT-4:

GPT-4 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4) is a large-scale multimodal artificial intelligence model capable of analyzing requests in the form of images and text and providing responses in text form. The model was introduced by OpenAI in March 2023. According to developers, GPT-4 achieves "human-level" results in various professional and academic evaluations, averaging 88% or higher.

During training, GPT-4 utilized adversarial testing methods as well as ChatGPT, contributing to the improvement of its functionality. Compared to GPT-3.5, improvements are noticeable: the model responds to requests about inappropriate content 82% less often and provides correct answers 40% more frequently. OpenAI emphasizes that "GPT-4 becomes safer, more creative, and capable of handling much more complex instructions than GPT-3.5." The model also allows for customizing response styles and assigning specific roles to fulfill requests.

However, the model sometimes makes mistakes and can "hallucinate." For example, in one instance, a chatbot erroneously referred to Elvis Presley as the "son of an actor."

Despite this, in May, researchers from Microsoft released a document claiming that GPT-4 exhibits the first signs of AGI (artificial general intelligence), demonstrating abilities at or exceeding human levels.

Capabilities of GPT-4:

GPT-4 has several key advantages compared to previous versions:

  • Multimodality: The model can work with requests in the form of text, images, and videos. It can also process documents with images, text, diagrams, and screenshots, solving more complex tasks, including chemical and mathematical ones. GPT-4 responses can be presented in natural language, programming code, and formulas.
  • Enhanced accuracy in image recognition: The AI analyzes images with the same accuracy as text, identifying their content and details. For example, the model can explain the essence of a joke in a specific meme.
  • Expanded memory: The neural network can remember significantly more context (up to 25 thousand words), facilitating long-term dialogues and references to context.
  • Role-playing: The user can configure the model to act as a text editor, app developer, and other roles, influencing the response style. The model also offers improved capabilities for modeling requests and acquainting with various language dialects."
